Dondre Whitfield has been performing for 35 years but you may not remember that he began his career appearing in a recurring role as Robert Foreman on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show (the love interest of Tempestt Bledsoe’s character Vanessa Huxtable). After that, he played Terrence Frye in the ABC Daytime soap opera, All My Children. Whitfield is a three-time Emmy nominee with audiences now getting to know him for his role as Remy Newell on the critically acclaimed series “Queen Sugar.” The series was created and produced by Golden Globe-nominee Ava DuVernay and co-executive produced by Oprah Winfrey on the OWN Network.

Whitfield later had a two year-run on the NBC daytime soap opera, Another World. From 1991 to 1994, Whitfield portrayed Terrence Frye in the ABC Daytime soap opera, All My Children. The role earned him nominations for three Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series and two Soap Opera Digest Awards.[1][unreliable source?]

After leaving daytime television, Whitfield starred in the short-lived Fox sitcom The Crew during 1995–96 season. In 1997, he went to star alongside Kadeem Hardison in another short-lived sitcom, Between Brothers. “After 35 years of doing this, this is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to play a man who is not a caricature,” said Whitfield to Vanity Fair. “We see white characters that aren’t caricatures all the time, but this is the first time I’m playing a fully realized man.”

Manhood, and helping men realize their potential as a man, is something that Whitfield is very passionate about.

He’s so much more passionate about it that he created a book, Male Vs. Man

Male vs. Man was created to help men and women alike understand what real manhood is, based on biblical wisdom as well as hard-earned lessons from someone who has been there. With practical guidance and a strong spiritual foundation, Dondré shows how to cultivate the life-changing spiritual, emotional, and psychological attributes of servant leadership at home, at work, and in our communities.

As a husband, father and relationship coach, Whitfield says manhood is more than a code of behavior and standards. His book shows how faith serves as the divine model for manhood, as it never acts out of flesh or self-interest. Whitfield looks to expose the debilitating myths, reverse the negative trends, shatter stereotypes, and…spark conversations that will empower males to help the women and children in their lives find their place of peace and purpose.

Passionate about helping address the challenges and pressures of masculine identity in the 21st century, Whitfield is also the co-creator of The Manhood Tour, a global movement committed to awakening the consciousness of men, giving them the keys to effective and impactful leadership, and teaching them how to tap into their talents and live them in the highest degree.

Dondre currently lives with his wife, actress Salli Richardson for over 18 years with two children.
