Aretha Franklin Undergoing Medical Treatment

Is Aretha Franklin sick again?

A spokesperson for the legendary Queen of Soul, 71, announced that she is taking a break from performing during the month of June. Catherine O’Grady, the director of the Ottawa Jazz Festival, where Franklin was scheduled to perform on June 26, told the Ottawa Citizen newspaper that Franklin was too ill to perform.

“It’s doctor’s orders. She’s really not well,” O’Grady said.

Publicist David Brokaw provided no other details, other than to say that Franklin will reschedule two shows and resume her touring schedule in July.

During the announcement Franklin announced earlier this month that she would cancel scheduled performances in Chicago and Connecticut this week to undergo medical treatment between May 20-26. She also postponed concerts in Clarkston, Michigan, as well as Ottawa and Montreal, Canada, which were scheduled for late June.

Franklin did not specify what type of treatment she was receiving

Franklin, a towering figure in popular music during the 1960s and 1970s with hits including “Respect” and “Chain of Fools,” was forced to cancel a concert tour in 2010 to undergo surgery for an undisclosed health issue. Prior to that operation, she was forced to miss various concerts and personal appearances.
