The Secret To Better Sex? Eat More Apples

Table of Contents

It’s not just in the Bible with Adam eating the apple from Eve. Now, science may have just proven why apples are the true ‘forbidden fruit’.

Women who eat more apples may have better sex, suggests new research from Italy.

The study, published in Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, analyzed 731 sexually active, healthy (no history of sexual disorder) Italian women between the ages of 18 and 43.

The group of women who consumed one to two apples a day scored higher on their Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) – a 19 question survey about their sexual activities – than those in the no apple group.

Why Apples Lead to a Better Sex Life

1. Apples and Sexual Health in Women

The 2014 study that experts are still using today found that women who ate one to two apples a day reported better sexual quality of life — including greater lubrication, arousal, and overall satisfaction — compared to those who didn’t eat apples regularly.

Why?

  • Apples contain phloridzin, a phytoestrogen (plant compound similar to estrogen) that may help improve sexual function, especially in women.

  • They also contain polyphenols and antioxidants that boost blood flow — crucial for arousal and sensitivity.

2. Apples and Blood Flow (for Everyone)

A healthy sex life relies on good circulation, and apples help with that.
Apples are also rich in quercetin, a powerful antioxidant known for improving blood circulation and heart health. Better blood flow means more oxygen delivered throughout the body — including to vital areas that enhance arousal and stamina:

3. Apples and Testosterone

In men, quercetin may also help:

  • Reduce oxidative stress in the testes (supporting healthy testosterone levels).

  • Protect sperm quality, thanks to its antioxidant properties.

So, eating apples regularly might have subtle but positive effects on libido and fertility.

How to Add Apples for a Better Love Life

If you want to naturally spice things up, adding apples to your daily diet is a simple place to start. Try these ideas:

  • Morning Power Smoothie: Blend apple slices with spinach, banana, cinnamon, and almond milk.
  • Pre-Date Snack: Slice a crisp apple and pair it with a tablespoon of almond butter for slow-release energy.
  • Sweet Nightcap: Enjoy baked apple slices drizzled with dark chocolate — both contain antioxidants that enhance blood flow and pleasure.

Other Fruits that are Good for the Bedroom

Pomegranates

Why it works:
Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants that increase blood flow and improve testosterone levels. Studies show pomegranate juice can enhance sexual desire and performance.

How to use it:
Mix pomegranate juice with sparkling water for a romantic, heart-healthy drink.

Mangoes

Why it works:
Mangoes are known as the “love fruit” in many cultures. They’re rich in vitamin E, which supports hormone production and acts as a natural aphrodisiac.

How to use it:
Mango slices with a sprinkle of chili or lime for a sweet-and-spicy kick.

Watermelon

Why it works:
Watermelon is often called “nature’s Viagra.” It’s rich in citrulline, an amino acid that helps relax and dilate blood vessels — improving circulation and arousal for both men and women.
Bonus: It also helps with hydration, which is key for energy and endurance.

How to use it:
Blend fresh watermelon with mint and lime for a refreshing libido-boosting drink

Remember the Bigger Picture: Overall Health = Better Sex

The benefits of apples extend beyond the bedroom. Regular apple eaters often enjoy:

  • Better heart health – improving stamina and blood flow

  • Lower cholesterol – helping maintain overall vascular health

  • Weight management – reducing issues like fatigue or hormonal imbalance

  • Improved gut health – which may indirectly affect mood and hormones

When your body feels good and functions smoothly, your libido often follows.

While apples may not be a magic potion, their combination of antioxidants, phytoestrogens, and circulation-boosting nutrients make them a true friend of sexual wellness. As the old saying goes, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” — and now, it might just keep your love life thriving too.
