Master Storyteller and Healthcare Visionary Brings New Series to BDO on Longevity

Bella and Elle Media, led by CEO Charles Mattocks, is often referred to as a “visual health pioneer.” For the past decade, the company has been at the forefront of creating impactful health-related television and film content. One of its most notable projects, Reversed, was a groundbreaking series focused on Type 2 diabetes.

In Reversed, Charles brought together five participants, along with their loved ones, for a transformative journey on the island of Jamaica. The show enlisted a team of experts—from nutritionists to diabetes educators and mental health professionals—to help the guests reimagine their health and change their lives. Over the course of the 13-part series, viewers watched the emotional highs and lows typical of any docu-reality program. Yet, the true impact of the series was in the powerful transformations that unfolded.

Not only did several participants significantly reduce their medication, with some even being able to stop their meds under their doctors’ supervision, but all the guests experienced dramatic weight loss—many shedding over 65 pounds—simply through education, lifestyle changes, and the inspiration they found from being on the series, many found their WHY with Charles support as host of this groundbreaking series.

The success of Reversed is a testament to the mission of Bella and Elle Media, driven by Charles Mattocks, along with his dedicated team: Robert Higgs, Evan Whitehead and Brandi Kasperski. Together, they continue to inspire, educate, and empower individuals to take control of their health and transform their lives.

Charles has become a trailblazer in creating health-focused television content that addresses some of society’s most pressing health challenges. His work spans a range of topics, from cancer—highlighted in the Eight Days series that aired on Discovery Networks—to rare conditions like Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), diabetes, and sickle cell disease, just to name a few. As Charles puts it, “It’s not as easy as you’d like to think. I do a lot of knocking on doors to find partners who want to help educate and change health outcomes. But we always find ways to get it done. The message is too important, and the people need someone that fights for them, I am not an expert but an advocate, and that allows our message to cut through in many ways to the people.”

Charles, who is also the nephew of the late reggae legend Bob Marley, has not only made a mark in the health space but also in the entertainment industry. He’s a best-selling author, a Golden Globe-nominated actor for his role in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie The Summer of Ben Tyler (alongside James Woods), and a Blue Circle Champion with the International Diabetes Association. He’s also a published author with the American Diabetes Association.

His passion for health advocacy stems from his own personal journey with Type 2 diabetes, which he was diagnosed with 15 years ago. This life-changing experience set him on a path to not only transform his own health, but also to help others improve their health outcomes. “I realized that educating people in their own homes was the best way to reach them,” he shares. “Many people find navigating the healthcare system daunting. What better way to reach a target audience than in the comfort of their own living rooms?”

This mission led him to create impactful docu-series that address health issues head-on. One of his latest projects, a series on Longevity, is set to release this month. In addition, Charles is currently working on a new series called Reverse the Church, which features gospel legend Marvin Sapp and other influential figures. This project aims to change the health outcomes of an entire Church community, tackling health issues within the Black Church. Other projects in the works include a series on Menopause to be filmed in Costa Rica and a series focused on mental health, where guests will live together in a home for a week to work with leading experts in these fields. The goal is to open up conversations, shed light on these issues, find treatment options, and break the stigma surrounding menopause, mental health, and health in the Black church.

These new series will be featured on platforms like BlackDoctors.org, Dame Dash’s new streaming platform ( America Nu Network ) and popular outlets like Amazon Prime, among others.
