6 Tips For A Sexy, Soft Beard

African American man with beard

Since the beginning of time, a man’s beard has kept him warm and added character. Let’s be honest, it’s kind of sexy too. But if a beard is done in the wrong way, it can mess up not only your physical appearance but your health as well.

Don’t know what a soft, sexy beard looks like? Here are a few visuals to get you familiar:

Growing and maintaining a sexy, healthy beard doesn’t just happen overnight, so we asked some of our “Bearded & Black” panelists for some tips on growing the perfect beard.  You’d be surprised to hear what they had to say.  Here are the top 6:

1. Know Your Shape

Do your research! Start by learning the shape of your face and which look would compliment it more. Does a more rounded beard look better on you?  Perhaps your face calls for a more sharp, straight-lined beard. What about your cheekbones? Does your face need a high beard or a low beard? A trained barber should be able to help you. Remember every beard does not look good on every face.

2. Brush, Brush, And Brush Again

Many men think that you have to wait for your beard to grow in before you can start

grooming it. This isn’t the case.  You need to train your hair follicles to get ready for your beard.  That can be done simply by brushing your face (yes, even before hair begins to grow), in the direction you want your beard to grow.  Just about 10 minutes throughout the day should do and more when stubble begins to show.

3. Right Under Your Nose

This area is not to be neglected! If someone is looking directly at you, it’s likely their eyes will shift towards your mouth/nose area when talking, so don’t forget to trim the area directly under your nose and your nose hairs. This will dramatically increase the look of your beard and entire face, giving you a cleaner appearance.

4. Scruffy Needs Work Too

Scruffy beards are no exception! Contrary to popular belief, this effortless look actually requires effort. Make sure you clean and trim the area underneath your beard (neck and under chin) so that your seemingly unkept beard still shines through and doesn’t get lost in stray hairs underneath.

5. Moisturize And Condition

Don’t forget to moisturize! Moisture is a major part of your beard’s

look and feel. The Scotch Porter Beard Collection is perfect for growing and conditioning your beard. It’s a versatile system that will perform well on your beard. Did we mention this company is black-owned? This set comes with a wash, conditioner, serum, and balm.  You can purchase the entire system or the beard balm on its own.  The products are formulated with botanicals, natural oils, extracts, and vitamins (avoiding parabens, silicones, and petroleum) to naturally strengthen, condition and restore moisture to your beard.

5. Be Patient

Waiting. It’s one of the hardest things to do. Especially when your beard finally starts to thrive. Sometimes the best and healthiest way to about it is to wait for the beard to grow a little more before getting it trimmed (or retrimmed).  If you trim it too often, the beard could get smaller and the hairs thinner, not to mention all the wear and tear on your skin.  So waiting a few extra days for a trim can help.

Now that you’ve got all the tips and tools to be successful, put ’em into practice! It won’t be long before you’re #beardgoals.
