When it comes to researching your genealogy, apps are an effective and easy way to trace your family tree. Here’s a lineup of must-use free genealogy mobile apps that will help you Know Your History.
1. AncestryDNA
Ancestry.com has two genealogy mobile apps available. Their popular app currently ranks as the 7th of all reference apps in the Apple App Store and boasts a 4-star rating. Use this app to consult or add to your tree, review automated record hints, share your discoveries, and search for records.
Incredibly, this genealogy app is also compatible with the Apple Watch and enables you to receive hints right from the watch, keep up with comments, use voice dictation to respond to comments, and get on-this-day alerts for events from your tree.
2. Family Search
FamilySearch has two free genealogy mobile apps: Family Tree and Memories. Using the Family Tree app enables you to consult and contribute to the free collaborative tree on FamilySearch.org with more than 5 million people who have contributed information about their own histories. Include your own on-the-go by adding people or searching for and adding historical records to profiles.
3. MyHeritage
MyHeritage is especially known for its technological capabilities and its free genealogy mobile app doesn’t disappoint. In fact, the app enjoys a healthy 4.7-out-of-5 rating from more than 7,500 iOS users!
4. Findmypast App
Released in 2018, the new Findmypast genealogy mobile app is already one of the top family history-tracking apps available. You can use it to “search, add to, and update your Findmypast family tree,” but user comments reveal that there isn’t a tree view yet (you can view individual ancestral profiles).
The ability to review record tidbits within the app is especially good, given that Findmypast has been expanding the records included in hinting lately.
According to their website, other functions include being able to upload photos to your tree from your mobile device, get tips to help your tree grow, order DNA tests through Findmypast partner Living DNA, and much more.
