Superstar singer Janet Jackson has at the age of 50 given birth to her first child Tuesday night January 3rd, a baby boy, her publicist has confirmed.

A statement said the seven time Grammy winner and her third husband, Qatari businessman, Wissam Al Mana, were “thrilled” to welcome the infant, Eissa Michael Al Mana.

The singer confirmed in September that she would name her son after her late brother, Michael.

“Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably,” the publicist added.

Rumors started circulating about her pregnancy in April 2016 when she postponed her Unbreakable tour.

She posted a video on Twitter at the time in which she told fans that she was postponing the tour because…

…”there’s been a sudden change”.

Janet Jackson is far from the only famous celeb to give birth later in life.

Oscar-winning Halle Berry had her second child at 47, three years ago, and John Travolta’s wife Kelly Preston gave birth to her third child at 48.

Geena Davis – best known for her role in Thelma and Louise – became a mother later in life. Her first child, a girl, arrived when she was 46, followed two years later by twin boys.

The risk of pregnancy complications increases as the mother’s age increases. Risks associated with childbearing over the age of 50 include an increased incidence of gestational diabetes, hypertension, delivery by caesarean section, miscarriage, preeclampsia, and placenta previa.

Born in Qatar’s capital Doha and worth an estimated £820 Million (that’s nearly $1 Billion in U.S. dollars), Wissam is executive director of family business the Al Mana Group.

The conglomerate is made up of 55 companies — including one that owns all the McDonald’s outlets in Qatar — and has interests in an array of non-related businesses, including fashion, media and entertainment. It was started by his late father, merchant Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana, who was instrumental in first luring top designer labels out to the Middle East.

Wissam, 41, once said: “My father passed away when I was quite young, and I felt that it was my duty to pick up the flag and to continue the business — and try to continue the legacy and the family name.”

That’s why it was so important for him, after finding his bride, to have an heir to carry on the family business just as he did.

Her older brother Jermaine Jackson has also shared a few details of his youngest sister’s pregnancy journey.

“She’ll be a great mother because she is very tough, very strict,” Jermaine who has nine children of his own, said in May.

“But I tell her, ‘If you need any parenting skills or baby skills, let me know because I’m the best diaper changer there is on this planet, still to this day.’ ”
