You probably remember DJ Kid Capri as the loud, energetic, and talented DJ that always used to introduce himself as the “Kiiiiiiiiiiiid Capri!” He’s been Def Comedy Jam’s resident DJ, toured with some of hip-hop’s biggest names in history and has survived the ever-changing game of hip-hop music. But even though that’s enough to celebrate, the Grammy award-winning DJ took to his Instagram page with a photo of himself in a hospital room to share the even greater news: He’s cancer free.

He writes that while he was celebrating Hip Hop 50 he was battling cancer all year round. Kid Capri said that he never said anything publicly about his battle that required him to have multiple surgeries.

“God is great! 3 days ago, I found out that I’m cancer free! Been dealing with it all year while I was doing everything I was doing for hip hop 50,” he began. “I had 2 surgeries and never said anything publicly about what I was going through, I’m not an attention whore, so I didn’t want to say anything, so that it didn’t look like i wanted pity.”

He continued, “But now that it’s over, I figure I let my fans and friends know, I’m very happy, this year I did a lot, but come 2024, I’m getting even crazier than I did in 2023!! Thank you God! #kidcapri #partyking #therealLOVE #happynewyear #happyholidays.”

Twenty years later at the 2023 BET Awards, Kid Capri hosted and curated Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary segment featuring various medleys to honor the genre, with Kid himself mixing live atop mutual-artist performances.
