Bobbi Kristina’s Family Believes In The Healing Power Of Music

cover

Singer Bobby Brown’s 56th birthday has been a mix of emotions. With his daughter fighting for her life, several media outlets are reporting that family members are gathering to say their final goodbyes to his daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.

However, Bobby Brown just released a statement saying that this is patently FALSE, as are many other reports, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Bobby Brown released the following statement today:

“If we issued a statement every time the media published a false report regarding this matter, that’s all we would be doing 24 hours a day. This is false, just as is the vast majority of the other reporting that is currently taking place.”

Although his daughter remains unresponsive and can breathe only with the aid of a ventilator, Bobby Brown – who is making all the decisions regarding Bobbi Kristina’s care, says he is not ready to give up hope. He is right there by her side as any father knows how to do. The concerned dad also knows how to do something else: sing.

Bobby Brown – who turns 46 on Thursday – and close family members have been singing gospel songs and hymns to Bobbi Kristina during her time in intensive care in a Roswell, Georgia hospital. Bobbi Kristina has since moved to Emory University Hospital, reports CNN.

“We’ll sing ‘Jesus Loves Me,’ ‘Amazing Grace,’ but also some of Whitney’s songs,” a relative told PEOPLE Magazine this week. “We’ve been singing ‘Greatest Love of All.’ Bobby has sung that to her too.”

In many settings, music has been used to help heal. In fact, in a hospital intensive-care unit, patients on ventilators who listen to music of their choice actually relax, while those who don’t hear music grow more tense. Research suggests that the brain responds to music almost as if it were medicine. It may regulate some body functions, synchronize motor skills, stimulate the mind—even make us smarter.

Clinical studies and anecdotal evidence from music therapists suggest that the sound of music:
-manages pain
-improves mobility of people with Parkinson’s disease
-reduces the need for sedatives and pain relievers during and after surgery
-decreases nausea during chemotherapy
-helps patients participate in medical treatment that shortens hospital stays
-relieves anxiety
-lowers blood pressure
-eases depression

The best part is that to take advantage of music’s healing power, you don’t need to take a prescription to your local music store. You don’t even have to go to the music store at all. The home remedies you need are probably already in your music collection.

“If America thinks she is dead, they will stop praying,” says a Brown family member. “And at this point, we want people to pray for a miracle.”
