HIV & H2O: Have A Love Affair With Water

5 water glasses

H20 and I have become the “best of friends” over the past few years. As of late, we’ve been dating more consistently, with daily talks enhanced by a few visits to larger bodies of water to reflect and renew. Obviously one of our most romantic moments is when I’m bathing underneath the showerhead in the early a.m, while the water drips down my face. Instead of the conventional glasses of H20, kid like, I cup my hands and drink at least 10 hand-cups of H20 – we all remember what that’s like.

See, I had to make the simple things that sometimes are simply overlooked easy, efficient and playful. After many talks and rebukes from my physicians I NEEDED to drink more H20. The same way I plan to eat a meal, I had to plan to drink water consistently.

Taking my one pill a day was good, but something about consistently drinking water places you on the edge GREAT! Feeling  great, looking great, sounding great – being GREAT!

If this tingles in your spirit and rubs your heart the right way GREAT! I’m talking to you and those connected to you. Having a dis-ease such as HIV, as many know, has challenges that either can disable or enable. I began to take a look at those small challenges, like drinking more water, as enablers to do GREAT things.

It’s hard for people to fathom but if you can make everything you do be engulfed with joy, peace and structure you will have success. After many years of failing to be consistent with my water intake I began making a schedule to drink water. Now, this relationship I have with water is like clock work.

Immediately, if I forget to drink water my body will alert me with a not-so-cute headache, dry mouth spell or just a slight sluggish feeling. Ya’ll know how it is when you’re dating that “special person”: miss a text or two or three and a few phone calls and your whole being is vexed. My relationship with water is the same. So because I love my baby I partake in communion often.

I share these words with you because all of us have been dipped in the water at some point today, i.e., shower, bath, quick face towel wipe down. The question is, after you did that did you take the time to drink water?
