Butter may not do the body much good when it comes to health, but it sure does do our skin some good when it comes to our glow. Melanin glow that is. Stuck with mundane drugstore lotion options that just don’t seem to penetrate your skin and leave you with long-lasting moisture?

Try these 6 DIY Body Butters that you can make at home with all-natural and simple ingredients:

1. Shea Body Butter

Ingredients:

-2 tbsp raw organic shea butter
-1 tbsp unrefined coconut oil (solid at room temperature)
-2 tsp olive oil or castor oil
-2 tsp beeswax
-Optional: 20 drops of your choice of essential oil (i.e. chamomile, geranium and orange)

Directions:

1. Slowly combine shea butter, coconut oil, olive or castor oil and beeswax in a glass mason jar or bowl.  Add two cups of water to a small pot and place your jar or bowl in the pot.  Bring the water to a boil, allowing all ingredients to melt.

2. Remove from heat and add essential oils.

3. Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.

4. Let cool for several hours or overnight.

2. Pain Relief Body Butter

Ingredients:

-1/3 cup coconut oil
-1/3 shea butter, cocoa butter or mango butter
-1/3 beeswax
-1 tbsp menthol crystals
-10 drops of peppermint essential oil
-1/2 tsp arnica oil

Directions:

1. Slowly combine coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter, beeswax, and arnica in a large glass mason jar.

2. Add 2 cups of water to a small pot, bringing to a boil. Place your jar in the pot and allow it to melt ingredients.

3. Remove from heat, and add essential oils and menthol crystals.

4. Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.

5. Let cool for several hours or overnight.

3. Bronzing Body Butter

Ingredients:

-1/2 cup coffee
-1/3 cup beeswax
-1/4 cup shea butter
-1 tbsp non-nano zinc oxide
-Optional: 10 drops bug repellent essentials oils
-Optional: 1/2 tsp mineral makeup of your choice for extra bronzing

Directions:

1. Slowly combine coffee, beeswax, and shea butter in a large glass mason jar.

2. Add 2 cups of water to a small pot, bringing to a boil. Place your jar in the pot and allow it to melt ingredients.

3. Remove from heat, and add essential oils and

zinc oxide.

4. Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.

5. Let cool for several hours or overnight.

4. Sunscreen Body Butter

Ingredients:

-1 cup coconut oil
-1 cup shea butter, cocoa butter or mango butter (or a mix of all three
equal to 1 cup)
-1 cup beeswax
-2 tbsp non-nano zinc oxide
-Optional: Vitamin E oil to preserve.
-Optional: A few drops of vanilla or essential oil for scent (do not use citrus oils!)

Directions:

1. Slowly combine coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter, and beeswax in a large glass mason jar.

2. Add 2 cups of water to a small pot, bringing to a boil. Place your jar in the pot and allow it to melt ingredients.

3. Remove from heat, and add essential oils and zinc oxide.

4. Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.

5. Let cool for several hours or overnight.

5. Magnesium Body Butter

Ingredients:

-1/2 cup magnesium flakes + 3 tbsp of boiling water or 1/2 cup pre-made magnesium oil
-1/4 cup coconut oil
-2 tbsp emulsifying wax or beeswax
-3 tbsp shea butter

Directions:

1. Pour 3 tbsp of boiling water into the magnesium flakes in a small container and stir until it dissolves. This will create a thick liquid. Set aside to cool.

2. Slowly combine coconut oil, shea butter, emulsifying wax or beeswax in a large glass mason jar.

3. Add 2 cups of water to a small pot, bringing to a boil. Place your jar in the pot and allow the ingredients to melt.

4. Remove from heat, and add magnesium mixture.

5. Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.

6. Let cool for several hours or overnight.

6. Whipped Body Butter

Ingredients:

-1/2 cup shea butter
-1/2 cup cocoa butter
-1/2 cup coconut oil
-1/2 cup light oil (like almond, jojoba, or olive)
-Optional: 10-30 drops of essential oils of choice
-Optional: Cocoa butter, shea butter, or mango butter

Directions:

1. Slowly combine coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter, and beeswax in a large glass mason jar.

2. Add 2 cups of water to a small pot, bringing to a boil. Place your jar in the pot and allow it to melt ingredients.

3. Remove from heat and add essential oils.

4. Pour into a lukewarm glass jar or tub.

5. Let cool for several hours or overnight.
