Debra V. Fraser-Howze founded the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS. She has advocated for HIV and AIDS patients since the late 1980s. NBLCA conducts policy, research, and advocacy on HIV and AIDS. An advisor to two U.S. presidents, Debra is recognized for global leadership to communities of color for teen pregnancy, social welfare, HIV and AIDS.
Since 2008, Ms. Fraser-Howze has served as the Senior Vice President of Government and External Affairs for OraSure Technologies, Inc., a leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of oral fluid diagnostic, collection devices and other technologies designed to diagnose critical medical conditions. She is responsible for developing business opportunities in new markets; works with lawmakers to ensure resources are available to communities in need of testing; and develops external opportunities with clients, stakeholders and business partners.
Ms. Fraser-Howze attributes her success to the “village principle” and says, “I owe my success to all of the people who taught me about my absolute responsibility to God, family, country and the village.”
Her advice to our youth, “Dream of the greatest thing you can be and work hard, study hard and always be kind and fair and if you only get half way there, you will be somebody.”
