Who Knew?!: ‘The Real’ Co-Host Tamera Mowry–Housley Has Double Dutch Skills (VIDEO)

Remember that one episode of Sister, Sister when Tia and Tamera told the bully and her little double Dutch contest to step off, and they decided to jump rope for fun instead (you can watch a slightly bootleg clip here)? Looks like that double dose of fancy foot work wasn’t just for the cameras. In case you missed it, actress, wife, mother and The Real co-host Tamera Mowry–Housley dusted off her moves on an episode of the daytime talk show.

Now, I don’t know if you’ve tried to jump double Dutch as a grown woman, but let me be the first to tell you IT IS A WORKOUT! You’ll get your heart rate up, your lungs will do some serious work, and your legs and arms will feel the burn from jumping and turning.

“As many Black women face health disparities, we believe jump rope games offer a highly effective and fun exercise,” says Ayana Haaruun, Founder of Black Girls Jump.

Studies show that you can actually burn more calories jumping rope than running. A person weighing 160 pounds can burn up to 730 calories with one hour of rope jumping, according to the Mayo Clinic.

If you are inspired to get your jump on again, it’s easy to start. Lace up a pair of comfortable gym shoes, get an old school clothesline (yes, they still sell them!), grab at least two more friends and hop to it!
