NeNe Leakes just recently shared an update about her husband Gregg’s battle with colon cancer–but it was an update she didn’t want to share. The 53-year-old former Real Housewives of Atlanta star told guests at her Duluth, Georgia, lounge The Linnethia that her “husband is transitioning to the other side.”
The reality star made these comments seemingly in frustration after she was called out by guests at the venue for not wishing a visitor a happy birthday, as seen in footage obtained by It’s Onsite. There, NeNe was with her son when she asked for sympathy amid a difficult time.
“You don’t know what we’re dealing with,” she added. “We walked up in the lounge because we have to because this is our business. So when people approach us saying ‘You’re rude’ because you don’t want to say happy birthday, my husband is at home dying. And I don’t want to say happy birthday, ok? So please, give us some respect.
“So please, give us some respect. Give us some love,” NeNe added. “Give us some love. That’s what we ask of you. You see my son, he’s hurting, I’m hurting…my husband is losing his life at this very moment.”
The following day, she then shared an Instagram post of the word “BROKEN” with praying hands and broken-heart emojis below it.
She revealed that Gregg is “at home dying” over the weekend, doing so from her business The Linnethia Lounge in Duluth, Georgia. The former reality star took the microphone at the space to address patrons after an uncomfortable encounter with a few guests who allegedly confronted her about a birthday shout-out they wanted from her.
“I had no idea I was going to walk in here and grab the microphone and make an announcement. But I want to say this…I want to be at peace. When you see me, when you see my son, give us a lot of love,” she said in a clip filmed and shared on TikTok. “My husband is transitioning to the other side.”
Gregg and NeNe went public with his Stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis in 2018 when she was still a cast member on Real Housewives of Atlanta. His health journey was documented on the series. In 2019, she shared that he was cancer-free. But in June of this year, she revealed that he was back in the hospital as his cancer returned and he’d recently undergone a major surgery.

Treatment for colon cancer would normally go like this:
Stage III colon cancers, like how Gregg has, have spread to nearby lymph nodes, but they have not yet spread to other parts of the body.
Surgery to remove the section of the colon with the cancer (partial colectomy) along with nearby lymph nodes, followed by adjuvant chemo is the standard treatment for this stage.
For chemo, either the FOLFOX (5-FU, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin) or CapeOx (capecitabine and oxaliplatin) regimens are used most often, but some patients may get 5-FU with leucovorin or capecitabine alone based on their age and health needs.
For some advanced colon cancers that cannot be removed completely by surgery, neoadjuvant chemotherapy given along with radiation (also called chemoradiation) might be recommended to shrink the cancer so it can be removed later with surgery. For some advanced cancers that have been removed by surgery, but were found to be attached to a nearby organ or have positive margins (some of the cancer may have been left behind), adjuvant radiation might be recommended. Radiation therapy and/or chemo may be options for people who aren’t healthy enough for surgery.
On the other hand, Stage IV colon cancers have spread from the colon to distant organs and tissues. Colon cancer most often spreads to the liver, but it can also spread to other places like the lungs, brain, peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), or to distant lymph nodes.
