My Story: “I Never Thought I Could, So I Never Tried”

tasha weight loss

Once you get into the routine of life, it’s hard to get out of the routine to change your lifestyle for the better–especially when it comes to weight loss.

The same is true for Tasha.  As far back as she can remember, she’s always been overweight and was content with being that way for the rest of her life. But then fate intervened and her small success turned into a huge victory. Here’s Tasha’s story in her own words:

“For my entire life I have been over weight. Along with being morbidly obese, I also suffered from depression, hypertension since the age of 18, type 2 diabetes since the age of 21 and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) since the age of 16.”

“I never really thought I could actually lose weight and be healthy, so I never really tried to lose any of the weight. That was until last year, March of 2015 when I decided to do a free 10 week bootcamp offered by a local gym in my area. I told myself during those 10 weeks that if I lost 20 pounds i’d keep trying to lose the weight.”

“Well after the program finished I managed to lose 23 pounds so i stuck to my word and I kept going. Since then I have lost 120 pounds by working out 4-5 times a week implementing cardio and strength training as well as eating a low carb high protein diet.”

“I’ve lowered my blood pressure and now it falls within normal limits and I have cured my type 2 diabetes and I no longer have to take medicine for it. I lowered my A1c from 6.7 to 5.2.”

The A1C test is a blood test that provides information about a person’s average levels of blood glucose, also called blood sugar, over the past 3 months. The A1C test is sometimes called the hemoglobin A1c, HbA1c, or glycohemoglobin test. The A1C test is…

…the primary test used for diabetes management and diabetes research.

The A1C test is based on the attachment of glucose to hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. In the body, red blood cells are constantly forming and dying, but typically they live for about 3 months. The A1C test result is reported as a percentage. The higher the percentage, the higher a person’s blood glucose levels have been. A normal A1C level is below 5.7 percent.

One of the hardest obstacles I faced during my weight loss journey was staying motivated when I felt like I couldn’t see change, as well as realizing that not every weight loss victory is a “scale” victory. I also had to keep pushing myself during times of “weight plateaus”. During the journey of weight loss its so easy to get discouraged but its important to remember to stay encouraged and remember your goals and your reasons for starting.
