The most popular New Year’s resolution has got to be losing weight, but did you know that the majority of those resolutions fall to the wayside by January 20? Crash diets don’t really work. The best way to get in shape is by making simple changes in your everyday routine. And why wait until the new year to start? Read on to find out how you can become a healthier you right now!

1. Don’t be a couch potato.

On Thursday nights, a.k.a. “Scandal Thursdays”, why not sneak in a couple sets of weights, crunches, and/or jumping jacks in between commercial breaks?

2. Activate your social life.

Instead of going to the movies and pigging out on candy, popcorn and soda, try meeting up with your friends for a hip-hop dance or Zumba class. You’ll be having fun while burning off calories at the same time!

3. Make smarter lunch choices.

Swap out those greasy fries for a side of carrots or celery sticks. And the next time you order a salad at your favorite restaurant, be sure to ask for the dressing on the side. As a rule of thumb, stick with fresh fruits and vegetables and non-processed foods. You’ll thank yourself later.

4. Cut back on stress.

The stresses from work and everyday life can take a serious toll on your body, from headaches and migraines to high blood pressure, insomnia, hair loss and weight gain just to name a few. Eliminate stress by keeping a daily journal, taking a warm relaxing bubble bath, meditating or signing up for a yoga class.
