A: Gluten is a protein found in food processed from wheat and related grains. Gluten intolerance and celiac disease are two different things. A person can have gluten intolerance but not have celiac disease. Some asthmatics have gluten intolerance, which causes them anaphylactic shock (a life-threatening allergic reaction).

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease where the small intestine is hypersensitive to gluten. People with celiac disease cause damage to their t allow the patients to absorb nutrients from food. If you have either of these conditions you need to be gluten free. There are lots of products that are made gluten free now and there are lots of alternatives to make life easier. I myself am gluten free because of gluten intolerance due to asthma.
