Donna Summer, Disco-Era Icon, Dies Of Cancer

Donna Summer, a disco music legend, has died from lung cancer at the age of 63. TMZ is reporting that the “Queen of Disco” passed away in Florida after her cancer battle. While Summer fought breast cancer several years ago, there have been more recent reports that she actually succumbed to lung cancer.

Donna Summer is best remembered for her iconic 70s hits, such as “Hot Stuff,” “Last Dance” and “She Works Hard for the Money.” Her family has released a statement, saying that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.”

Summer won 5 Grammys throughout her musical career, and married Bruce Sudano, a singer for Brooklyn Dreams, in 1980 and the two had two daughters together. They also have four grandchildren.

Donna has been called the “Queen of Disco” and set the path for many other musical acts to rise to success. She was the first artist to have three double albums in a row hit the US Billboard chart number 1 spot. Summer also had four number-one singles in the States within a thirteen-month period.
