5 Reasons To Quit Sugar For Good

sugar sign

Are you ever anxious about finding something sweet? Are you that person who just tries to promise to only have a little piece, and then ends up completely indulging yourself? If this is you, it may be time to give sugar up for good.

In most cases, the sweetness will raise your blood sugar, giving you a sense of energy. The sweet sugar also gives you a boost in serotonin, giving you a feeling of happiness. This would explain why many of us tend to overdo it in the sugar department. According to the AHA, the average American consumes over 150 pounds of sugar each year. But when the crash hits, you will need another “hit” of this addictive drug called sugar.

So it’s probably a given that sugar is not your body’s best friend, but you may not be so aware of the fact that empty calories aren’t the only thing you need to be worried about.

1. Feeling Hungry?

Sugar is in everything! The constant intake of it raises blood sugar and signals the pancreas to release insulin, therefore lowering the blood sugar quickly. This sudden drop in blood sugar creates the feeling of hunger in your body. This is how the cycle starts.

2. Mood swings? Groggy?

With that sudden drop in blood sugar, comes the “crash”. Your energy and mood are now negatively impacted, and you may begin to feel shaky and lightheaded.  Annnd….guess who is now reaching back for more? You are officially on the sugar roller coaster.

3. Fat

Insulin signals the body to store fat, meaning that sugar promotes the storage of fat in the body. Overtime the more sugar and carbs that you eat will create a natural resistance to insulin. This forces your body to have to create more of it to do the same amount of work. With more insulin, comes more stored fat.

4. With Sugar Comes Age

Advance glycation end products (AGEs) are produced from the consumption of sugar over time. AGEs create damage in the collagen and elastin of the skin (especially the face). This means wrinkles come quicker and sagging becomes more apparent.

5. The Downfall of Your Immune System

Insulin production inhibits the release of the human growth hormone. This negatively impacts the immune system, making you more susceptible to illness. Your body will be weak and will have a hard time fighting off infection and virus. Sugar consumption also makes you more vulnerable to several diseases and illness such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
