Who would’ve thought that under the slender suits were rock hard abs and buldging biceps? Mike Epps, the comedian best known for playing “Day-Day Jones” in Next Friday and the sequel-to-the-sequel, Friday After Next, takes his workouts seriously.
When Epps isn’t filming, he is touring the country and performing his comedy act, shooting comedy specials and starring in movies. Little do people know that Epps is fan of boxing. He follows the sport and keeps his body in shape with the help of former boxer and trainer, Rickey Funez.
Getting a great workout like Epps outside the ring doesn’t have to take a long time. Here’s a 15 minute total body celebrity boxing workout that you can complete to firm, tighten and build muscle.
Minutes 1-3: Jump Rope
Begin slowly; increase your speed and intensity as your body begins to warm up. If you don’t have a jump rope, you can mime the movement by circling your hands and hopping foot to foot.
1 Minute “Abs Knockout”: Plank
*Ding-Ding* There’s the bell — in 4 minutes flat, you’re warmed up and ready to go. Now it’s time for the smack down!
Minutes 5-7: Shadow Boxing
1 Minute “Abs Knockout”: Side Plank — Right
Minutes 9-11: Slips
Once you have your rhythm, up the intensity by adding punches. As you slip to the right, throw a left jab (this will make sense to you as you do it because your left shoulder will be moving forward as you slip to the right). As you slip to the left, throw a right cross. Keep the core firm and keep it going: You ought to be sweating if you’re doing it right!
1 Minute “Abs Knockout”: Side Plank — Left
Minute 13-15: Jump Rope
Repeat minutes 1-3.
Combine this boxing body blast with your regular routine and others will be throwing punches just to get close to you. Don’t forget to smile and laugh when working out. As Epps says, “It’s more fun with a joke or two!”
