The Reinvention Reset: A 10 Step Blueprint for Changing Your Life

During this challenging period we have been going through, many have looked at our lives and decided it was time for a change.  While some of us were forced into unexpected changes, many of us have long thought about changing careers, changing lifestyles to become healthier, improving our relationships, starting a business, pursuing a new hobby, cleaning up our finances, moving to a new city…on and on.  But then, we STOP.  We say we CAN’T do it.  We start self-sabotaging ourselves with thoughts of: “I’m too old, I’m scared, I’m stuck, I’ve tried before and failed, I’m too tired, I’m not good enough” …etc.  Well, it is time to address these fears, obstacles, frustrations, anxieties, recurring worries, and blockers of our blessings.

It’s time for The Reinvention Reset.

What is The Reinvention Reset?  It is a 10-step Blueprint that helps you put self-doubt down and turn up the action you need for change.  These 10 steps are fundamental guidelines that can apply to any change you are anticipating making in your life.  Going through these 10 steps, or Pivot Points as I call them, will focus your mindset on what it will take to not fear change, but to embrace it. This process will address the pain points you are faced with and break them down so you can move forward strategically.  This way, you won’t be just “winging it” when trying to make real changes last.

The Reinvention Reset is based on my new book, Pivot for Success—Hone Your Vision, Shift Your Energy, Make Your Move which is now on presale at Amazon and will release June 22.

In it are 10 Pivot Points that I’ve used for over 25 years to reinvent myself and make significant career and lifestyle changes, becoming a successful corporate executive and entrepreneur, while trying side hustles, building a family and maintaining my physical, mental and emotional health through both challenging and triumphant times. These Pivot Points have been endorsed by First Lady Michelle Obama in an earlier guidebook, and she gave me her endorsement for life.

Pivot for Success has also been endorsed by Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook; Dr. Wayne Frederick, President of Howard University; Actors/Producers/Directors Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad; Susan Taylor, Editor-in-Chief Emerita of Essence Magazine and many others.  My stories of reinvention, resilience and resurrection in Pivot for Success are there to inspire others that they can change too.  As I say in the beginning of the book: In today’s times, if you aren’t willing to change, you will be left behind.  One thing we all know for sure is that Life. Will. Change.  And you must be willing to change with it.  It can be hard, but don’t be afraid to Reinvent yourself and build the Resilience it takes to do it.  In doing so, you may find Resurrection as you grow.  Listen—Jesus isn’t the only one who has risen from the dead.  Dreams, plans, businesses, and more can come alive again if you learn how to Pivot.”

So, let’s get to it!

The Reinvention Reset: A Blueprint for Changing Your Life

The 10 Pivot Points of The Reinvention Reset are simple to remember, easy to use, and are universal. They never go out of style. I have taught them worldwide and have dusted them off to apply them relentlessly to myself to know which way to turn, and I still do.

Before sharing the 10 Pivot Points, first let’s set up a baseline platform for The Reinvention Reset.  To improve your ability to make significant changes, you must be willing to do three things in sequential order:

  1. Hone Your Vision – About the Decision
  2. Shift Your Energy – To Meet the Decision, and THEN and only then
  3. Make Your Move – Toward the Decision

Using the 10 Pivot Points, you’ll be on your way to Reinvention and Pivoting Your Way to Success!

Here’s how it works: When you are faced with a turning point, and want to make a change, go through these 10 Pivot Points to focus your mind, and lead you to what you really, really want.  Use them all or use the ones that resonate the most for you.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  WRITE DOWN YOUR ANSWERS/THOUGHTS/GOALS.  Dr. Gail Matthews, a Psychology professor at Dominican University of California charted in a study that you are 42 percent more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. (Forleo)  So, take out pen and paper and let’s get started!  This is a brief overview of The Reinvention Reset.  A more detailed version will be offered in an upcoming online course, but this can get you started.

10 Pivot Points of The Reinvention Reset

Pivot #1: Finding Your PurposeWhat gift is uniquely yours, like a fingerprint, that you can share to help others?

Pivot #2: Believing in PossibilitiesWhat’s possible now? A year from now? 5 years from now? Who can help you?

Pivot #3: Defining Your PrioritiesIf you knew you had 5 years left to live what would you be doing? 3 years? 1 year? Why aren’t you doing that now?

Pivot #4: Envisioning ProsperityProsperity isn’t always about money, and all money isn’t green.  What is your enough?

Pivot #5: Getting PreparedLike the company DreamWorks®, you must work to live your dreams.  Are you willing to do the work?

Pivot #6: Having PatiencePutting one foot in front of the other is the only way to create a path.  Expecting instant gratification can lead to missteps.  Are you willing to be patient and consistent in your efforts?

Pivot #7: Seeking PositivityPositive thoughts and people are necessities, not luxuries.  What people do you need to move from the front row seat of your life to move ahead? (Figuratively or Realistically)

Pivot #8: Honoring your PassionIt’s the lubricant that keeps your dreams alive.  What are you passionate about doing or fixing?

Pivot #9: Maintaining PerseveranceDeveloping “Bounce-backability” is imperative.  Can you bounce back from failure?  When have you done it before?

Pivot #10: Managing PerceptionsThere’s no such thing as a second first impression, yet don’t advertise what you don’t have.  Are you clear about what you can deliver for yourself and for others?  Overpromising and underdelivering are dream busters.

Now go back and review your THOUGHTS/ANSWERS/GOALS considering the platforms of The Reinvention Reset.  Do you have more clarity about how to:

  1. Hone Your Vision – About the Decision
  2. Shift Your Energy – To Meet the Decision, and THEN and only then
  3. Make Your Move – Toward the Decision

In the Pivot for Success book, you’ll see which Pivot Points are recommended under which platforms to align with where you are in the decision process.  However, remember that the Reinvention Reset Blueprint Pivot Points can be flexible.  It’s most important that you take the time to step back, assess and write down YOUR Blueprint for YOUR Reinvention Reset.  Again, do not be overwhelmed.

Relax.  Remember, you’ve changed your life before.  You’ve gone for something you’ve wanted before.  You can do it again.  Do The Reinvention Reset and press on!
