Dreading That Time Of The Month? Try These Home Remedies

It’s that time again, the time every person with a uterus dreads: your monthly. For some, getting their menstrual every month is a walk in the park. They experience light to moderate bleeding and flow, no cramps, no backaches and little cravings. For others, getting their menstrual every month feels like the end of the world. Terrible cramps, outrageous cravings and a backache that makes you feel as though you may never walk again. If you experience painful and heavy periods, you’ve probably tried every over-the-counter medicine you can, right? Well, have you tried any home remedies? They may provide you with the relief you’re looking for, especially for those with unbearable menstrual cycles.

That Time Of The Month Can Be Brutal

Experiencing a menstrual every month is no walk in the park. It can be extremely hard to bear depending on your family history and lifestyle choices. Not having a healthy diet and being physically inactive could cause you to have heavy periods every month. If the women in your family have a history of heavy periods, it could be something that you experience as well.

There are also life factors that can make your period’s symptoms worse such as being under a lot of stress. Being stressed out often and not managing your stress levels can cause your period to change (come too early or be late) and it can cause heavy bleeding and a period that lasts for more than 5 days.

There are also medical problems that can make your monthly cycle hard to manage every month. Those who are living with endometriosis experience harsher cycles because of how it affects the uterus.

Especially When Living With Fibroids

Fibroids can make your periods extremely heavy and painful every month just like endometriosis.

Whether you know of them or not, fibroids have the ability to make your periods more difficult than they should be. But what are fibroids you may ask? Well fibroids, otherwise known as uterine fibroids, are noncancerous growths of the uterus. They can be a single fibroid that grows on your uterus or multiple fibroids. They can also range in size, being extremely tiny to the naked eye or huge masses.

When living with fibroids, you can experience symptoms such as pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, a menstrual period that lasts longer than a week, constipation, backaches and trouble with emptying your bladder all during your cycle.

Try These Home Remedies

Having to experience extreme pain during your monthly can put you on edge every month and have you dreading when that time comes.

Medicine can be helpful but sometimes you want something more natural and accessible to you, that’s why you should try home remedies.

Not only is a home remedy easy to concoct, but it can also be a lot cheaper than its alternative (over the counters). Here are some natural remedies you should try:

  • Give yourself a massage using essential oils. Massage therapy and aromatherapy can help reduce menstrual pain. You can book a massage at a spa, ask a partner or friend to give you a massage or try to give yourself one using oils such as lavender, rose and peppermint.
  • Use heat. Apply a heating pad to your back or right above your pelvic area to help ease cramping and pain. If you do not have a heating pad, try putting hot water in a plastic bottle and wrapping a cloth around it.
  • Drink raspberry tea. Tea in general can help alleviate menstrual pain but raspberry tea specifically has been proven to not only lighten your periods but reduce cramping during that time of the month.
  • Masturbate. Yes, masturbating or having an orgasm helps release endorphins and oxytocin in your body. Endorphins help decrease your perception of pain which helps when experiencing cramps.

Not Enough? You May Need Medical Attention

As helpful and easy as natural and home remedies can be, sometimes they may not be enough to help alleviate the pain you’re experiencing.

If you experience severe and excruciating pain every time your menstrual cycle comes on, then you need to seek medical help as soon as possible. This could be a result of fibroids that have distorted your uterus or you are living with something such as endometriosis. Sometimes it takes more than one way to get the job done, do what works best for you and your body
