Chris Bosh Says He’s ‘Lucky to be Alive’ Following Frightening Health Scare

After sharing limited details about a recent health emergency on social media, former NBA star Chris Bosh opened up about what he called a “terrifying event” in a personal Substack post, reflecting on life and saying he is grateful to be alive.

In his post titled “Return From the Darkness,” Bosh described suddenly losing consciousness while getting ready for a night out with his wife, Adrienne Williams Bosh.

“This experience motivated me to start writing again, to share my experiences and stories in the hope that we can get something out of it and grow together,” Bosh wrote. “Pay attention to yourself and those around you. Think critically about where your time is going, and why. Good or bad, bring attention to it. The ordinary parts of life don’t feel meaningful until they’re taken away.”

Bosh said the incident happened without warning.

“I blacked out,” Bosh wrote. “I didn’t see my life flash before my eyes. There wasn’t fear or a flood of thoughts. There was only confusion. Everything happened so fast.”

He previously shared an Instagram video saying he was preparing for a date night when it occurred.

“It was crazy. It was fast. It was instant. There was no warning. I didn’t have any time to prepare for it,” he said, adding that his wife called 911 after he fell and was lying in a pool of blood.

In the Substack post, Bosh described the moments leading up to the collapse.

“I was walking from my closet into the bathroom, getting ready for an evening out, when my body turned on me,” he wrote. “A numbing sensation shot down my left leg, that sharp, electric feeling you get when you bump your funny bone. Before I knew it, I was on the floor.”

He continued: “I slowly came to in a pool of my own blood while my wife frantically spoke with 911. I tried to move my body the way I always had, and it didn’t respond. There was no choice but to surrender. It was a terrifying event, something I had never experienced before. That’s when the realization hit me, everything can collapse at a moment’s notice. There’s not always a warning. There’s not always a symptom or a buildup to let you know what’s coming. One moment you’re walking. The next moment, you could be gone.”

Bosh did not disclose a specific medical cause. The two-time NBA champion previously faced serious health challenges during his career.

He was forced out of the game in 2016 at age 31 due to recurring blood clots, including one in his lung, but didn’t officially retire until 2019, after attempting to resume his career for three years. Doctors determined it was too dangerous for him to continue playing professional basketball.

Bosh, who won two NBA championships with the Miami Heat, has since focused on family life and business ventures. His recent post marked a rare public discussion of his health.

Following the incident, members of the NBA community and other celebrities flooded his social media accounts with prayers and support, according to media reports.

Among them were actress Gabrielle Union and actor Jamie Foxx, along with former teammates and fellow players. Many left brief messages expressing relief that he was safe.

Bosh’s message centered less on the medical details and more on perspective. He wrote about how quickly life can change and urged readers to value ordinary moments.

For now, he has not shared further information about his condition, but he made clear that the experience shifted how he views time, health and gratitude.
