Children Praying before 1st Day of School Goes Viral

As pour social media timelines are flooded with back-to-school photos, a photo of three children praying together before their first day of school has gone viral and it’s one of the most beautiful things we’ve seen.

Jamisha Harris is the mother of Eugene Jacobs, 10; Jorden Jacobs, 8; and Emily Jacobs, 7, the three children pictured in the photo. Harris is the one who posted the photo on Facebook of her children holding hands in prayer before heading to the bus stop. Her Facebook read, “I’m feeling nervous and a little unsure but thankful.”

She went on to write, “I pray for my children on their first day of school.”

Their local news channel, WAFB in Louisiana, reposted the picture to their Facebook page and got thousands of other likes, comments and shares.

One person commented, “Yes Lord. Hallelujah. This is how you do it. Start your day with prayers. They are at the right age to meet God. Prayers change things. God bless you all. Hallelujah”

Another person wrote: “Great way to start the morning! I pray Father God that You’re Mighty Angels will every moment of the day protect these children while at school and out in this world! I pray that they will be a blessing and encouragement to other children and adults alike. Thank You Lord for hearing and answering our prayers for all of these children.”

This picture comes at a time when there is so much debate a schools, a history of gun violence in schools, and racial unrest throughout the nation, not to mention Black-on-Black crime that has resulted in young, beautiful children dying unnecessarily.

Harris told Yahoo Lifestyle that praying is something that she and her husband do every day with their children. But as they’re headed off to school, it’s even more important to pray that they stay safe.

“All day every day I think about my children and that I’m not at school with them to protect them if any tragedies [were] to happen,” Harris says. “Because of the recent tragedies that’s been happening all over the world it’s no peace in being a mother because I’m always worried about shooters, bullying, sexual assault … anything that can harm my children.”

In order to combat some of the anxiety she feels when her kids go to school, Harris says she teaches them about the importance of listening to their teachers in the case of an emergency. Still, she worries every day.

“With all these tragedies happening the only thing I can do is raise them right and educate them on life and to always pray together,” she says.

Mothers around the world agree. We lift your children up in prayer just as we do our own children. God bless them all.
