7 Steps To Apply Makeup Properly

Yes, make-up transformations are a “thing.” Seeing someone go from an everyday look to super glamed-out is a sight to see, and social media is full of these transformations. So much so, that people think the “made-up” look is of a totally different person!

But, if you weren’t aware, there is a proper order to accomplishing a flawless face of makeup. You are probably wondering what’s first. Is it lipstick or eyes? At what point do you apply blush? Is it okay to apply eyeliner after mascara? I’ve got answers! Here are the seven steps:

1: Primer or Moisturizer

The key is to choose one and not use both. Moisturizer can ruin the entire purpose of primer. It’s also important not to forget the SPF, so make sure you are using a primer, moisturizer or foundation that includes this.

2: Foundation

Some may think it makes more sense to do the eyes first in order to prevent the eye makeup from landing on your freshly founded skin. This is not the case. You should apply your foundation all over in order to create an even canvas.

3: Concealer

Here is where many people mess up. Less is more! Only put in spots where necessary. Dark circles and blemishes are your focal points here.

4: Powder

A good setting powder is key. Lightly dust a translucent powder all over your face. This helps prevent creasing during a long night or or day at work, and it keeps everything in place.

5: Eyes or Lips

This step is up to you. I personally like to apply makeup to my eyes first because I tend to be more experimental with my lip color and want to base this decision off how dramatic my eyes are.

For Eyes: shadow > liner > then mascara. Don’t be afraid of layering!

For Lips: balm > liner > lipstick or gloss. It’s a good practice to smudge your liner over the entire lip. It helps for blending with your main color.

6: Cheeks

Do this as a final touch to tie it all together. Make sure you use the “two finger rule” and only apply blush up to two fingers away from your nose.

7: Setting Spray

Get a great setting spray to complete your masterpiece. This will keep sweat and every day elements from ruining your finished product.

Voila!
