Going through motherhood can be a rewarding experience for some women. However, being a mother to a newborn child comes with its own set of challenges. TikTok user @Brookesobasic never thought that she’d endure nipple trauma. The stay-at-home mother of six experienced a very rare health phenomenon that can sometimes happen during breastfeeding.
According to MamaMend, the health condition can sometimes manifest when the blood vessels in the nipple are being constricted. Often called Nipple Vasospasm, a breastfeeding mother will notice her nipple turning white at the tip.
The TikTok influencer assumed that her baby had a “great latch” but that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, research further suggests that a poor latch could lead to Nipple Vasospasm as well. Fortunately, the mother of six was able to save her nipples in the end and tell her story to other breastfeeding moms.

After having six kids, TikTok user @Brookesobasic seemed like she had this whole motherhood business under control. Though, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Since getting pregnant, the stay-at-home has been documenting her journey through motherhood every step of the way. She even showed the not-so-great parts of child-bearing. Most recently, though, she endured a major health scare.
Back in October, the young mother took to social media to share with her thousands of followers that during a breastfeeding session, her nipple fell off.
In a video clip posted to her TikTok account, Brooke revealed even more disturbing news about the ordeal. She additionally revealed that her baby had choked on the detached nipple.
Furthermore, the social media influencer noted that she saw all the red flags leading up to her health crisis. In a 90-minute video, she revealed experiencing pain and the area surrounding her nipples turning black. While breastfeeding mothers often experience discomfort, it’s not normal for them to have extreme pain all the time.

Lactation consultant and childbirth educator, Charda Bell, who works for Melanin Milk, confirmed that Brooke suffered from nipple vasospasm. Additionally, Bell noted that the social media mother also might’ve experienced necrosis nipple, which occurs when the tissue that makes the nipple doesn’t get any blood flow and can lead to the death of the body part.
It’s a very rare occurrence, however, it can happen if there’s “too much tension on the breast skin and the pedicle is compromised.” Furthermore, Bell recommends that mothers use proper positioning and practice deep latch techniques to prevent nipple trauma.
Fortunately, the body part can be saved. According to Bell, if the nipple is still alive, it can be reattached. The lactation consultant recommends cleansing the area with a sterile gauze and covering it with a bandage.
TikTok user @Brookesobasic used a similar approach. Furthermore, the mother of six cleaned her nipple before reattaching it to her breast and held the body part in place with a bandage.
Beforehand, a nurse had told her that if the nipple was alive, she could reattach it. While Brooke did end up saving her body part in the end, she stopped breastfeeding that child altogether.
However, the social media influencer did resume doing so with her three other children. Fortunately, she hasn’t encountered any problems. At the end of the day, the stay-at-home mom hopes her experience with nipple trauma will prevent other breastfeeding mothers from going through the same ordeal.
