OH NO: Top 3 Worst Cities to Date As a Black Woman

Table of Contents
worst cities to date

As a Black woman, it can be difficult to find someone to date due to the many challenges that come along with it. Navigating through the complicated rules and expectations of modern dating can be difficult enough, but the addition of racial dynamics can increase the challenge.

If you are having a hard time with dating, it could be worthwhile to examine how much of an effect your surroundings have on your situation.

In a recent TikTok video, Dating Coach and podcast host Anwar White went over the top three cities that he thinks are the most difficult for women of color to date in, and some of the cities may come as a shock.

Los Angeles

White explains that for Black and Brown women living in Los Angeles, the issue of dating is a complicated one due to the racism that still plays a part in the city’s culture and the beauty standards that favor those with Eurocentric features.

White also made note of the fact that many men of color have the tendency to seek out relationships with white women, creating an even greater challenge for Black women to find serious potential partners.

Houston

White pointed out that there are many economic discrepancies in Houston that make it hard for people to find time for dating, a reality that may come as a surprise to many.

Making the issue even more concerning, Mydatingadvisor.com revealed in a recent study from Mydatingadvisor.com, Houston was ranked third in the Top 10 most Unfaithful Cities in America.

Atlanta

While Atlanta has become a hub for young people to live in, White explains that there is a huge gender ratio issue currently in the ATL. White even describes the ratio as 6 men to 1 woman.

This causes the dating scene to become even more difficult because it allows men to be more flaky and treat women as disposable.

For Black women in general, dating anywhere is quite the challenge, especially in college.

In an Insider article, Jennifer Lundquist, professor of Sociology and Senior Associate Dean of Research & Faculty Development at the University of Massachusetts, and co-author of “The Dating Divide” stated “Black women often don’t feel comfortable or welcome in what is the pervasive romantic scene, which is the hookup scene — the parties, the drinking, fraternities.

Those are often white men’s territory on campus. Unfortunately, it seems like trends continue as “66 percent of Gen Z women [are] not feeling safe on mainstream dating apps,” according to a study from the Black dating app BLK.

However, if you are feeling a bit discouraged, don’t worry!

According to the same BLK study, many Black women are clear about what they want from a partner.

Also, according to White, these three cities are where you might be able to find the one: New York, Chicago, and the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia.)
