I’ll admit- I’m not the best at doing makeup and no matter how many YouTube tutorials I watch, I can never quite master something as simple as the ever-popular “no makeup” makeup look. As much as I can appreciate a beautiful beat face, I’ve come to terms that the closest I’ll get to achieving the “no makeup” look, is by simply wearing no makeup at all, with the exception of mascara.

As a result of walking around sans makeup, I make it a point to stay on top of my skincare regimen in order to maintain having a relatively even skin tone. So, if you have sensitive skin and are on the hunt for beauty products to accommodate your condition, here are a few powerful natural ingredients to look for that have been proven to help heal skin conditions better than others:

Shea Butter

Deriving from the nut of the African shea tree, shea butter works well as a stand-alone ingredient, but can also be found in beauty products that help to treat and reduce the symptoms in mild to moderate cases of eczema.

When applied topically, shea butter is

moisturizing and skin smoothing. Because it contains the compound lupeol cinnamate, shea butter also helps to reduce skin inflammation and avoid other skin conditions, such as tumors.

Sunflower Seed Oil

When applied topically, sunflower seed oil is not only hydrating but its properties also work to improve the skin barrier. When used regularly, sunflower seed oil combats acne, eczema, itching, inflammation, redness, and scarring of the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid

This ingredient may sound harsh because of the word “acid,” however, hyaluronic acid is actually beneficial for all types of skin, but especially those with sensitive skin.

Due to its ability to retain moisture in the skin, hyaluronic acid is effective in fighting against dryness and eczema, as well as proving to be beneficial with healing wounds and combatting inflamed joints and tissues when applied onto the skin.

Of course, you’ll have to go through different beauty products to find what works best for you, but these are a good list of ingredients to start with.

Additionally, while you’re looking for these ingredients in beauty products, also keep an eye out for the National Eczema Association seal on beauty products. According to the NEA website, brands and products eligible to receive the NEA seal are those that “have been created or intended for use by people with eczema or severe sensitive skin conditions and that have satisfied the NEA Seal of Acceptance criteria.”
