There have been some studies that suggest that certain foods can slow the growth of prostate cancer or lower the risk of it coming back after treatment.

Although some foods can be pinpointed as providing benefits, remember it’s important to eat a balanced diet complete with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Foods for Advanced Prostate Cancer Treatment

Below are some foods and food groups to consider adding to your diet if you have been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

Green Tea

Green Tea

Studies suggest that chemicals found in green tea are tied to a lower risk of advanced prostate cancer growth.

Green tea also has benefits such as accelerating metabolism and providing a natural source of energy.

It is recommended to steep green tea bags for at least five minutes to get all of the benefits.

fresh tomatoes

Tomatoes and Cruciferous vegetables

Tomatoes contain a specific chemical called lycopene, which has been tied to a reduced risk of prostate cancer growth. Other foods like guava, watermelon, and papaya also contain the same chemical. Since lycopene is not stored in your body for a long time, you would need to consistently eat these types of foods throughout the day.

Additionally, cruciferous vegetables (i.e. kale, bok choy, spinach, broccoli, and cauliflower) can also slow down the growth of prostate cancer.

Vegetarian Diet

Cutting out meat, especially red meat, can be beneficial for your overall health. Especially, if you’re supplementing with foods high in iron like beans and spinach.

Consider a vegetarian diet to improve overall health. In some studies, highly processed red meats have been tied to an increased risk of aggressive and advanced prostate cancer.

Inversely, a diet high in fruits and vegetables, and low in meat, has been tied to reduced risk of prostate cancer growth. This can possibly be caused by the chemicals that cooked meats produce when grilled at high temperatures.
