6 Women Who Passed Away From Butt Injections

Butt Injections horror stories

Believe it or not, Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery is more popular now more than ever. Even during a pandemic, the BBL procedure is getting done at an alarming rate–and it’s raising concerns for a lot of people. Many women have died from cosmetic procedures performed by doctors who claim to be licensed, but in reality, are just unlicensed everyday people who have a syringe and no consciousness.

Butt injections can either be made from your own fat, which is taken from another part of your body, or they can be made of foreign substances, like silicone. Foreign substances may also include free silicone, hydrogels, oils and saline.

Fat injections and silicone implants are offered throughout cosmetic surgery practices around the country. However, many fraudulent “doctors” are performing butt injections with something called free silicone — that means the silicone is in liquid form, rather than packaged like an implant. It is simply the liquid inside the implant.

Foreign substances like silicone, paraffin, petroleum jelly, and other non-human substances which have been known to be used in black-market cosmetic procedures are not approved by the FDA for use in humans and therefore, are illegal.

When liquid silicone is injected freely into the body, it is much more dangerous than when a person gets implants where the silicone gel is confined within a shell. However, many women, and even men, are attracted to these so-called “black market” procedures because they happen to be much cheaper than implants.

The Real Cost of Butt Injections

A legal butt enhancement procedure may cost around $7,000, while unlicensed providers often charge thousands of dollars less, sometimes as little as $200-500 dollars per injection. But everything cheap isn’t always good. And what’s good isn’t always cheap. People who choose the cheaper route fail to take into account the significantly high risks associated with these types of illegal quick-fix procedures.

Free silicone injections come with numerous risks and complications including pulmonary embolism; kidney failure or critical disruption of the kidney functions; inflammation or infection from possible impurities or poor quality silicone; appearance of abnormal nodules or bumps under the skin; nerve damage; bleeding, scarring and abscess in the butt; uneven butt augmentation or asymmetrical results where one cheek is higher or bigger than the other; chest pain, breathing problems, and in some cases, death.

How To Know If You’re Going to Get REAL Injections or Fake Ones

Real butt injections and fake butt injections differ in a number of ways, including:

Results

Real butt injections can last 2–5 years, while fake butt injections are temporary and last a few months to a couple of years.

Recovery time

Real butt injections may require little to no downtime, but mild swelling and bruising are common for 5–7 days. Fake butt injections may cause mild discomfort, including swelling and bruising, for up to 2 weeks.

Complications

Fake butt injections can cause serious health problems, including pulmonary embolism, kidney failure, infection, nerve damage, chest pain, and breathing problems.

Cost

Butt injections are more affordable than a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) or butt implants.

Invasive procedure

Butt injections are less invasive than other butt augmentation procedures and can be performed in an outpatient clinic.

Volume

Butt injections can only add a small amount of volume, while butt implants can provide more dramatic results.

A board-certified professional is best able to provide information about butt injections and butt implants, and create a treatment plan that’s customized to your anatomy.

5 Women Who Lost Their Lives to Butt Injections

Kelly Mayhew

The 34-year-old BET employee died hours after receiving silicone injections from an unlicensed “doctor” in a Queens, NY basement.

Butt Injections

Claudia Aderotimi

The British student traveled from London to Philadelphia for silicone injections and later died when the silicone moved to her lungs and stopped her heart. She was only 20.

Before her death at a hospital, she was reportedly experiencing chest pain and breathing trouble.

According to the American Board of Plastic Surgery, silicon can migrate from your butt to your thighs and other parts of your body. This can be shown on ultrasounds and MRIs. Silicone injection problems include localized pain, skin irritation, permanent skin changes resulting in redness, creation of significant scar tissue, the conversion of scar tissue into granulomas, and sometimes the conversion of granulomas into certain cancers.

Key Facts About Silicone Migration through the Body

  • Migration Locations: Silicone can migrate to the legs, abdomen, and lungs.
  • Timeframe: Migration can occur shortly after the procedure or decades later.
  • Complications: Traveling silicone leads to severe inflammation, infection, necrosis (tissue death), hardening, and skin discoloration.
  • Removal Challenges: Because the silicone infiltrates tissue and spreads, it is often impossible to remove it all, frequently requiring multiple, disfiguring surgeries.
  • Fatal Risks: If the silicone enters the blood vessels, it can lead to fatal pulmonary embolisms or brain damage.

Butt Injections Deaths

Wykesha Reid

After receiving what family members say was her FOURTH black market b*tt injection, the 34-year-old mother was found dead in a shady salon run by unlicensed “doctors.”

At the scene, detectives found Reid laying on her back on a massage table with her pants partially pulled down and bloody gauze on her buttocks.

A Dallas police detective then went to notify Keira Reid of her mother’s death. Keira Reid told police her mother had left home the night before and was going to have “butt injections,” and that she believed a woman named “Wee Wee” and a transgender person performed the injections.

Her family said that Wykesha Reid was feeling fine when she left the night before.

Butt Injections Horror Stories

Joy Williams

The 23-year-old British Nigerian woman traveled to Bangkok for a cheap butt injection procedure and later died.

Williams had travelled to Thailand without informing her family. She had earlier been to Thailand twice and had scouted around for clinics which would do the surgery.

She had initially visited the “clinic” to undergo the surgery in the hope that it would give her a bigger, fuller bottom. However, when her wounds became infected, she returned for a corrective surgery to get the silicon implants removed.

Williams was later found dead on the operating table with a three inch-long stitched incision on her tail bone. Apparently, the medical staff were unable to revive her from the anaesthesia.

The doctor who had performed the surgery, Sompob Sansiri, was arrested and sentenced after Williams’ death.

Butt Injections

Tamara Blaine

The 22-year-old mother and part-time college student was found convulsing on a bed inside a Liberty Inn hotel room after being injected with silicone by an unlicensed woman. According to the New York Daily News , Blaine’s mother (who searched for her missing daughter for weeks) learned of her daughter’s death when she received a bill from the morgue.

Shartaka Nuby

Shatarka Nuby was a 31-year-old Florida woman who died in March 2012 due to complications from illegal, black-market cosmetic injections. Her case received significant attention as it highlighted the extreme dangers associated with receiving medical procedures from unqualified individuals.

  • Provider: Nuby sought procedures from Oneal Ron Morris, who was not a licensed medical professional.
  • Procedures: Between 2007 and 2010, Nuby received multiple injections in her buttocks, hips, thighs, and breasts.
  • Substances: The injections involved the use of non-medical grade, industrial substances that were toxic to the human body.
  • Cause of Death: A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by respiratory failure resulting from systemic migration of the injected substances throughout her body.
  • Symptoms: Before passing away, Nuby suffered from severe physical complications at the injection sites, including discoloration and intense heat.

Legal Consequences
Following an investigation into the death, Oneal Morris was charged with manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license. In 2017, Morris was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years of probation.
